What are the 2 features of modern nationalism in Europe?
1. MOdern Nationalism in Europe came to be associated iththe formation to nationa-states with a definite political boundary. It also meant a change in people's understanding of who they were and what defined their identity and sense of belonging.
2. New sumbols and icons, new songs and ideas forge new link and redefined the boundaries of communities, it also includes uniformity of law, social and economic system with common aspiration and definite.

Explain the rebellion in the countryside during Non-cooperation movement.

Why was the Swaraj Party formed?
1. C.R. Das and Motial Nehru felt that it was important to oppose British policies within the councils, argue for reform.
2. They wanted to demonstrate that these councils were not truly democratic.
3. C.R. Das and Motilal Nehur formed the Swaraj Party within the Congress to argue for a return to councial politics.

How did poor peasantry react to the Civil Disobedience Movement?
1. The poorer peasantry were not just intresed in the lowering of the venue demand. The poorer peasantry found it difficult to pay their rent.
2. They wanted the unpaid rent to the landlord to be reunited. They joined a variety of radical movements, often led by Socialists and Communists.
3. The Congress was unwilling to support 'no rent' campaign in most places. So the relashionship between the poor peasants and the Congress remained uncertain.

Why did Gandhiji relaunch the Civil Disobedience Movement?
1. In December 1931, Gandhiji went to London for the Conference, but the negotiations broke down and he returneddissappointed.
2. Back in India, he discovered that the govt. had begun a new cycle of repression. Ghaffar Khan and Jawaharlal Nehru were both in jail.
3. The Congress had been declared illegal and a series of measures had been imposed to prevent meetings, demonstrations and boycott. With great apprehension, Mahatma Gandhi relaunched the Civil DisobedienceMovement.ss
